Chapter 8: The Prehistory of Written Language: "There's also a story about Picasso in which someone asked him why he didn't draw representational images. Picasso asked the man for an example of what he meant, so the questioner produced a photograph of his wife. Picasso then asked the man if his wife was really 5 centimeters tall, two dimensional, was nothing but a head, and had skin tones that were shades of gray (Picasso also famously said that when he was a child he had drawn like Raphael, but it had taken the rest of his life in order to learn to draw like a child)."

Sacred tower...

The towers of Jerusalem
A great city, whose image dwells in the memory of man, is the type of some great idea. Rome represents conquest; Faith hovers over the towers of Jerusalem; and Athens embodies the pre-eminent quality of the antique world, Art. Benjamin Disraeli

Psychological Meaning: A tower may be a symbol for aloofness. Are you so involved in cerebral activities that you have lost touch with your feelings? A tower can also of course be phallus symbol.

Personal commentary:
My regular readers have probably noticed that building symbols and tower symbols appear in my art work frequently. It is true that I often become obsessed with cerebral activities and I lose touch with my feelings. The phallic symbol of many of my drawings is also obvious. I lean toward Carl Jung’s idea that in primitive societies, phallic symbols do no usually refer to sex. They symbolize spiritual power. These symbols would be displayed on occasions when the spirits are being called upon to increase the crop yield or to heal someone. The connection between the penis and strength, between semen and seed, between fertilization and fertility are understood by most cultures.

Ronald, I'd like to put a banner on my blog, linking to this one. Do you have a banner you can give me?

Also, I'd like to know whether you favor the term "metrimorphic" over "morphometric." I can't decide which I prefer, in terms of the sound of the word and its implied meaning.

Thanks ahead for your input!
